maker's dinnerはワイン創成期のカリフォルニアにおいて盛んに行われるようになりました。当時のカリフォルニアワインは、ジャグワインが主流で、安いワインというイメージでした。

ワインメーカー（＝ワイン醸造家）が努力をしてヨーロッパのワインと同じくらいの上質なワインを造っても、なかなかそれをワインスノッブ達に味わってもらえる機会がありませんでした。

　そこで、レストランの上客であるワインスノッブたちに集まってもらい、共に食事とのマリアージュを楽しみながら、ワインメーカーたちの造りへのこだわりを感じてもらおうということで、「ワイン・メーカーズ・ディナー」が開催されるようになりました。　造り手側からの情報発信を目的にはじめたメーカーズディナーでしたが、ディナーの場では、ワイン造りに対する質問や、ワインに対するコメント、マリアージュのポイントなど消費者の側からも多くの発信が行われました。

　この消費者からのリアルなフィードバックは、ワインメーカーたちのワイン造りに新たな視点を提供しました。

　こうして、ワインメーカーズディナーは、造り手と飲み手の双方向のコミュニケーションの場として発展し、実際のワイン造りにも影響を与え、カリフォルニアワイン業界の発展に寄与していきました。そして、現在カリフォルニアだけでなく、世界の中で開催されるようになったのです。

　ワイン造りに大事なものは、人、葡萄、テロワールといいます。テロワールとはワイン造りを取り巻く気候や土壌などの環境のことをいいます。私たちは、このテロワールには、そのワインを飲む「飲み手」も含まれると考えています。「良い飲み手が良いワインを造る」といわれます。ワインに限らずいかなるものも、相互のコミュニケーションを通じて影響を与えあっています。

 maker's　dinner.comは、造り手と飲み手の相互コミュニケーションの場をプロデュースすることを目的としています。

What is “Maker’s Dinner”?

Maker’s Dinner has been praised for its initial stage of wine making in California. In the old days California Wine was perceived to be jug wine and it had a slightly cheaper image.
Even though lots of wine makers in California made an incredible effort to produce high quality wines as European wine makers do, they did not have a chance to present their wines to the wine snob.

Therefore, the wine makers tried to invite lots of wine snobs to show their “hidden” high quality wines and let them enjoy the “Mariage” of food and wine. This is why the “Wine Maker’s Dinner” was started.

At first, wine maker’s dinner had started to put out the information from wine makers. However, lots of consumers asked many questions, made comments and talked about the important points of “Mariage” about the wines at dinner.
These positive and realistic feedbacks from the consumers have offered new perspectives to the wine makers.

Thus the wine maker’s dinner has been developed and provided an opportunity for both wine producers and consumers. It is for sure that these dinners have affected wine makers profoundly and contributed to making high quality wines in California. This dinner now is held not only in California but all over the world.

It is often said that the important things for wine making are people, grapes, and terroir. “Terroir” is French term that means the way wine express the soil, climate, culture and tradition of a region. We definitely think that the term “Terroir” include the wine drinkers. People say that “Good wine drinkers make good wines”. There is no doubt that the mutual communication is the key to develop the wine industry.
Thus the “makersdinner.com” aim is to produce mutual communication between wine consumers and producers.
